The total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026 will trigger one of the largest movements of people toward southern Catalonia in decades. Catalonia's Civil Protection agency estimates around 85,000 visitors and 40,000 vehicles converging on observation points across the province of Tarragona. Accommodation demand has far outstripped supply — and that creates a real opportunity for any property owner with space in the area.
The Numbers Tell the Story
The price gap between eclipse night and the week after says everything. In Deltebre, an apartment reaches €951 on August 12 versus €618 just seven days later — a 54% premium. In Salou, a two-person flat hits €513. In Torredembarra, €412 for five people.
In towns like Tortosa, Roquetes, Alcanar and l'Ametlla de Mar, virtually all accommodation is already fully booked. Visitors arriving now are actively searching for alternatives — and they are prepared to pay for them.
The typical eclipse traveller is highly educated with above-average spending power. They are not looking for cheap deals: they want the right location, comfort and, above all, an unobstructed view of the sun at the moment of totality.

Where Is the Totality Band in Catalonia?
The totality path crosses southern Catalonia from west to east, passing through the regions of Montsià, Baix Ebre, Baix Camp and Tarragonès. The municipalities with the longest totality — and therefore the highest demand — are those in the Montsià (La Sénia, Alcanar, Amposta, Ulldecona) and Baix Ebre (Tortosa, Deltebre, Roquetes). But any municipality within or close to the band has real demand: visitors who cannot find accommodation at the main hotspots are looking within a 30-40 km radius.
