What you lived will stay forever in the historical archive of the eclipse in Catalunya
On 12 August 2026, 221 municipalities in Catalunya will fall into darkness. For a few seconds. The last one was on 30 August 1905. The next will be on 17 November 2180.
We are building the archive of that day with a photo and video contest. What you photograph or film of the eclipse can be part of it: an astrophoto of the moment, an image or video of your municipality, or an artwork inspired by the phenomenon.

One eclipse, 221 viewpoints
There will be coverage of the eclipse. There will be spectacular photographs taken from the official viewing points. But nobody is going to document what happened across the 221 municipalities in the path of totality in Catalunya — in the squares, on the tracks, on the rooftops, in villages of twenty houses where night also fell.
Only you can do that: everyone who was in Catalunya on 12 August 2026 watching the total solar eclipse.
The Eclipse Archive collects photographs, videos and artwork from those who lived that day in Catalunya, through a juried content contest. It is a collective record of a phenomenon Catalunya had not seen since 1905 and will not see again until 2180.

Eclipse voices
There will also be a separate space, like a personal diary of Catalunya: a memory wall where you can share in a sentence how you lived the eclipse and from which municipality. No contest and no prize; only collective memory. Discover more here.

There is a first participation window right after the eclipse. If you don't make it in time, there will be a second one later.

On 19 August we select the material and notify the chosen people by email. There is editorial review: not everything received is published.
Didn't make it in time? There will be a second contest window, open from 20 August to 30 October 2026. The prizes available may differ from the first window.

Once every several generations
The last total solar eclipse visible from Catalunya was on 30 August 1905. The next will be on 17 November 2180, and the one after that in 2433.
Nobody alive today will see another total eclipse from Catalunya. That is why this archive exists.

Before you take part
What the rules say
The Eclipse Archive is a juried content contest. Here is the essential you should know before uploading your material. The full conditions are in the rules.
You are the author
Your work stays yours. You grant a non-exclusive licence: eclipsi26 may use your content for the archive, publications and productions, and you keep the freedom to use and license your work to whomever you wish.
Image rights
If recognisable people appear in your photo or video, you need their permission. If minors appear, you must have their parents' or guardians' authorisation, and we may ask you for it signed before publishing that content.
The jury and its criteria
A jury selects the material by its value: singularity of the phenomenon (Baily's beads, corona, diamond ring), documentary value of the moment, technical quality and originality. The verdict is on merit, not on order of arrival.
The prizes
Up to 26 participants selected by the jury receive the eclipse book. Those rated highest also receive tickets to parks and leisure experiences in Catalunya. The book goes only to the selected, not to all participants.
Real, high-quality content — requirements
- No AI. Only real content, captured by you during the eclipse, is accepted. Content generated or substantially altered with artificial intelligence is excluded.
- Origin fingerprint (metadata). Keep the file's original metadata (date, time and, where available, location). It lets us verify the image was taken on 12 August. If you erase or manipulate it, the content may be excluded.
- Print quality. Photos in JPEG or PNG, long side at least 3,000 px, up to 25 MB. The aim is to be able to print if we need to.
- Video. MP4 or MOV, at least 1080p, up to 500 MB and 3 minutes.
- No inappropriate content. Any material that demeans or discriminates against people, as well as nudity or content outside the family and informational character of the archive, is excluded.

Up to 26 books
An eclipse keepsake book
Up to 26 participants selected by the jury will receive an eclipse keepsake book written by Clara Llopart, editor of eclipsi26.com. Those rated highest also receive tickets to parks and leisure experiences in Catalunya.
The jury selects the material by its quality and documentary value, following the criteria published in the rules. The book goes only to the selected, not to all participants.
Free shipping within Spain. Outside Spain, shipping costs are paid by the participant.

Leave us your email and the municipality where you'll be watching the eclipse. On 12 August at 21:00 we'll send you the link to upload your material.

If you are an artist and want to sell
The archive is not the Museum
They are two different things and it is worth not confusing them.
Eclipse Museum
The Museum is a sales showcase. Original physical artwork, with a price, a listing and direct contact with the buyer. It runs on an exhibition fee and takes no commission on the sale: the full price of the work goes to the artist, who retains 100% of their rights.
The Archive is documentary. Nothing is sold. Taking part means assigning usage rights over your material for the archive and its publications, and your viewpoint is recorded in the historical archive of the total solar eclipse of 12 August 2026 in Catalunya.
If you want to sell your work, your place is the eclipsi26 Museum. If you want it documented and nothing more, your place is the archive. And if it suits you, you can do both: archive and museum.
The Eclipse Archive is part of eclipsi26.com, the only outlet documenting all 221 municipalities of Catalunya in the path of totality.
